It is one of the three cultural centers in the region that operate according to an agreement on cultural issues between the state and municipalities in East Iceland.The other centers are T\u00f3nlistarmi\u00f0st\u00f6\u00f0 Austurlands in Eskifj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and Sl\u00e1turh\u00fasi\u00f0 Menningarmi\u00f0st\u00f6\u00f0 in Egilssta\u00f0ir.<\/p>\n<p>Skaftfell is an independent, non-profit art organization. It was founded in 1998 in honor of the Swiss-German artist Dieter Roth (1930-1998), who frequently lived and worked in Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur in the last decade of his life and had a lasting influence on the cultural life of the town.
