{"id":15635,"date":"2019-09-15T10:27:30","date_gmt":"2019-09-15T10:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive.skaftfell.is\/?p=15635"},"modified":"2019-09-16T10:29:08","modified_gmt":"2019-09-16T10:29:08","slug":"collectors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.skaftfell.is\/en\/collectors\/","title":{"rendered":"Collectors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Opening reception April 6, 16-18h.<\/em> <\/strong><br><strong><em>April 7 \u2013 June 1, 2019 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>An exhibition of the wonderful, strange, and varied collections drawn from the residents of Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and surrounding areas. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, in Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, East Iceland announces its spring exhibition <em>Collectors. <\/em>We are all collectors, sometimes by intention and often by happenstance. These accumulations reflect our personalities, curiosities and passions. This exhibition arose from an invitation to the town and the surrounding areas inhabitants to show those things that they collect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skaftfell wished to make this exhibition as open and inclusive as possible, with the\nintention that wherever practical, every collection offered would be displayed in the\ngallery. The range of collections reflects the diversity of the town&#8217;s population, from an\nassortment of typewriters to cinema programs and serviettes to wasp nests. By showing\nthose objects which have personal meaning or sentiment, the project will in effect become\na portrait of the community. Each collection will be accompanied with information on the\ncollector and a text in which the owner can explain the collection and why it is special to\nthem.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hope that this project is a practical demonstration of how the community of\nSey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is not merely the audience for the exhibitions at Skaftfell but are creative\ncollaborators in everything that happens at the art center. Further, we wish that the\nexhibition will be a means to reflect on both the nature of collections and collecting, as\nwell as the function of the modern gallery and its relationship to its immediate\ncommunity. The project should spur such questions as: what makes a collector? Does a\ncollection have to be intentional?
