P\u00e9tur Kristj\u00e1nsson is more than an artist. Having lived in Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur since the 1980s, he was until recently the director of T\u00e6kniminjasafn Austurlands and was instrumental in the founding of both Skaftfell and the Dieter Roth Academy. He has enjoyed a crucial role within the cultural life of the town and has diligently worked as an artist while also generating opportunities for other artists. This exhibition coincides with P\u00e9tur’s retirement from T\u00e6kniminjasafn Austurlands and represents a form of retrospective of his work as an artist that he has created over the last 30 years. P\u00e9tur often works with the detritus of society, those things which are thrown away or abandoned. His work invites a reconsideration of the value we place on the things which surround us, finding new uses for broken and rejected objects, and reflecting on what we find beautiful and valuable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
