{"id":16002,"date":"2020-04-27T12:31:07","date_gmt":"2020-04-27T12:31:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive.skaftfell.is\/?p=16002"},"modified":"2023-04-01T04:57:21","modified_gmt":"2023-04-01T04:57:21","slug":"matter-kirsty-palmer-in-the-west-wall-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.skaftfell.is\/en\/matter-kirsty-palmer-in-the-west-wall-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"(Matter) \u2013 Kirsty Palmer in the West Wall gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Skaftfell&#8217;s current artist in residence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kirsty_palmer_\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Kirsty Palmer<\/strong> <\/a>(UK) is showing a selection of her newest work in the West Wall gallery in Skaftfell&#8217;s bistro, beginning on 5th May 2020.<\/p>\n<p><i>(Matter) <\/i>is a group of new works developed during Kirsty&#8217;s residency at Skaftfell from February to May 2020.\u00a0Responding to existing concerns within her practice, the work explores image-making as an evolving medium in her predominantly sculptural and site-specific practice.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kirsty_palmer_\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Kirsty Palmer<\/strong><\/a> lives and works in Glasgow. Her practice is often driven by formal concerns; materials, their changing states and the making process itself. She is interested in the phenomenological potential of materiality, archaeology and landscape as a site of memorial. Her work often presents as a site-specific \u2018archipelago\u2019 of surfaces, forms and images and can itself be seen to form a memorial of sorts; a dedication to a particular physical space, image or process.<\/p>\n<p>Kirsty graduated from the MFA programme at The Glasgow School of Art in 2014, and with BA (Hons) in 2010.
