Everyone is welcome.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.skaftfell.is\/en\/skaftfell\/opening-hours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Opening times: like the bistro.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This exhibition is the final episode of the <strong>YPSILON GOGG<\/strong> trilogy. Preparations for this series of exhibitions began in the autumn of 2019 with philosophical\u00a0speculations and a modest hint of emotional tendencies towards the friendship that the three museum veterans from the three towns of \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur had cultivated over the years. The first exhibition, GOGG, was staged in \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur during the\u00a0summer of 2020. Second up was G\u00daL in Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur 2021 and in June 2022 opens the finale, G\u00daL\u00cdGOGG, in Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/p>\n<p>Curation and texts: J\u00f3n Sigurp\u00e1lsson, P\u00e9tur Kristj\u00e1nsson, \u00d6rlygur Kristfinnsson<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>J\u00f3n Sigurp\u00e1lsson,\u00a0<\/strong><em>Landscape by the sea<\/em> (installation, 2022)<\/p>\n<p>The horizon is an imaginary circle that separates the sky and the earth&#8217;s surface. On both sides of the imaginary circle is the rich ecosystem of all organisms and food supply, from <em>fruit de mer<\/em> to <em>foie gras<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>J\u00f3n Sigurp\u00e1lsson (1954) lives and works in \u00cdsafj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. He studied art at the Icelandic School of Fine Arts and Crafts and the National Academy in Amsterdam. J\u00f3n has shown his work in exhibitions in Iceland and abroad for years with solo and group exhibitions. He co-founded the Gallery Slunkar\u00edki and the Edinborg Cultural Center in his hometown and headed the Westfjords Regional Museum for over three decades.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>P\u00e9tur Kristj\u00e1nsson,\u00a0<\/strong><em>Oh! I SEE\/O.I.C.<\/em>\u00a0 (2022)<\/p>\n<p>Consumers are indviduals or groups of individuals that buy stuff \u2013 consumer goods that the consumers consume, utilize, use, enjoy etc. Producers and sellers are mostly some sort of companies, factories, shops etc. keeping busy creating all the consumer stuff.\u00a0 They must convince the consumers about the excellence of their products so the consumers will purchase them. All this happens on an arena called the <em>market <\/em>and that is something somehow<em> Oh! I see<\/em>. (O.I.C.)<\/p>\n<p>P\u00e9tur Kristj\u00e1nsson\u00a0(b. 1952) studied agriculture at H\u00f3lar in Hjaltadalur and holds a BA in Ethnology from Lund University, Sweden. Among many other things he was the director of the Technical Museum of East Iceland in Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur from 1986-2019. As an artist P\u00e9tur is self-educated. Having worked closely with Swiss\/German artist Dieter Roth from 1991 to 1998 he is a founding member and professor of the Dieter Roth Academy. P\u00e9tur has exhibited regularly in Iceland and Europe since 1991.\u00a0He lives and works in Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00d6rlygur Kristfinnsson,\u00a0<\/strong><em>Watercolour series<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This series of watercolours focuses on the extinction of the Great Auk. For millions of years, this species had developed as the largest of the Auks (Alcidae). For centuries the Great Auks\u00b4 eggs and meat were transported from its North Atlantic colonies to the banquet tables of Europeans. Lastly, natural history museums and private collectors were responsible for the species&#8217; extinction on June 3, 1844, on Eldey, off the coast of Iceland \u2013 when the last remaining Great Auk on Earth was killed.\u00a0\u00d6rlygur&#8217;s work addresses the fate of this creature and the conservation of our natural world.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d6rlygur Kristfinnsson was born March 21st, 1949 in Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. He studied at the Icelandic School of Art and Crafts 1969-73 and taught visual art for 20 years. In addition to exhibiting his artwork, \u00d6rlygur is a published author of several books concerning the history of Siglufj\u00f6rdur. In 1989, he established the Association of Museum Volunteers and was the Director of the Herring Museum of Iceland from 1996-2016. He is active in the \u2018Rimur\u2019 \u2013 rime chanting community \u2013 and also runs a studio and S\u00f6luturninn Gallery in Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 17 \u2013 August 28, 2022, Skaftfell Bistro Opening on June 17 at 16:00.
