Skaftfell \u00c2\u0096 Center for Visual Art in Sey\u00c3\u00b0isfj\u00c3\u00b6r\u00c3\u00b0ur, East Iceland proudly celebrates the 15th\u00c2\u00a0<\/sup>anniversary of the institution with an exhibition of works by the Swiss artist Dieter Roth (1930-1998).<\/p>\n

Dieter Roth was an exceptional artist and designer. He created art relentlessly and enthusiastically using many different mediums; graphics, sculptures, paintings, artist books and video. Roth\u00c2\u0092s approach to artistic practice and technical methods was innovative and he is regarded as one of the most important post-war European artists.<\/p>\n

The exhibition Fancy-Cake in the Sun<\/em> focuses on Roth\u00c2\u0092s contribution to the print medium which he had considerable aspiration towards. Both graphic prints and artist books selected by Bj\u00c3\u00b6rn Roth, Dieters son, will be on display. Bj\u00c3\u00b6rn divides the exhibition into eleven periods which cover the years 1957 to 1993. By doing so an informative insight is given into Roth\u00c2\u0092s art creation and lifework. A total of 40 works and series are exhibited, both privately owned and on loan from the Living Art Museum in Reykjav\u00c3\u00adk.<\/p>\n

Roth moved to Iceland in 1957 and started visiting Sey\u00c3\u00b0isfj\u00c3\u00b6r\u00c3\u00b0ur in 1990. His influence in the Icelandic Visual art scene is unquestionable and he also played an important role in the cultural life of Sey\u00c3\u00b0isfj\u00c3\u00b6r\u00c3\u00b0ur. Roth passed away in 1998 and an exhibition in his honour was held at Skaftfell the same year. It was entitled Exhibition for Everything \u00c2\u0096 in honour and memory of Dieter Roth<\/em><\/a> and a total of 70 artists exhibited. The title of the exhibition refers to the artists magazine published by Roth Zeitschrift f\u00c3\u00bcr Alles <\/em>(Review for Everything).\u00c2\u00a0It is very appropriate now 15 years later to refer to the cultural life of Sey\u00c3\u00b0isfj\u00c3\u00b6r\u00c3\u00b0ur and celebrate with an exhibit of works by Roth.<\/p>\n
